Over the course of the summer, our Early Childhood teachers have been participating in a number of courses and seminars at the Sunbridge Institute. Through these courses, faculty members are able to not only grow as individual teachers, but also aid in the growth of their fellow Waldorf teachers from across the country.

Keelah Helwig, our Early Childhood Chair, and Kindergarten teacher, Lisa Miccio participated in the Sunbridge Summer Series. Keelah taught a course entitled “Working Together in the Early Childhood Section” while Lisa Miccio, led the week long course, “An Introduction to Waldorf Early Childhood Education.” Joining Lisa for the class was our former 2nd Grade Assistant, Wenjun Zhang, who will serve as our Early Childhood Afternoon Care Coordinator starting this fall.

Lisa also spent time in Charlotte Harbor, Florida with fellow Waldorf teacher Motria Shuhan, Director of the Acorn Waldorf School, bringing Waldorf Early Childhood Education to the kindergarten teachers of the Venice YMCA. While there, they helped transform classrooms to match the Waldorf style.

Also present at Sunbridge were three early childhood assistants who began teacher training – Hsinwen Chang, Ewelina Mazur and Katie McCarthy. Lastly, congratulations to Cristina Covas, Joanna Dorman’05 and Rie Seo who completed their teacher training and graduated the Institute on July 6th!

We look forward to seeing everyone in the fall.
